Intelligent traffic management with PTV's Traffic Platform

The PTV TrafficPlatform is based on a modular architecture and provides intelligent methods for traffic analyses and forecasts. It therefore builds the basis for a wide range of applications in the field of advanced, integrated and effective traffic and transportation management. The platform excels at accurately and dynamically modelling current and expected traffic conditions based on real-time data. Traffic reporters at traffic management centres can now access all static and dynamic traffic data and reports in real-time. The information can be edited, supplemented, displayed and analysed on maps. The PTV TrafficPlatform helps traffic planners to both manage and intelligently combine the data sets.

Who are the users of the PTV TrafficPlatform?

The traffic management system is designed for freeways and arterial streets as well as for applications in the field of integrated traffic control. It is also the core component for sophisticated traveler information systems. It has especially been designed for:

  • Universities and private research institutes
  • Traffic management centres and complex traffic control systems
  • Private service providers in cooperation with public authorities
  • Companies generating traffic data
  • Service providers offering traffic management and mobility services

A wide range of applications

Regardless of whether users wish to use a small basic solution or a complete traffic management system, the new software allows them to create a tailor-made solution that fits their needs best. The aim is:

  • to help traffic editorial offices to efficiently edit traffic reports
  • to visualise the current traffic condition on the Internet
  • to provide dynamic mobility services
  • to centrally control the road network with variable direction signs
  • to create the best traffic control strategy

Current traffic conditions on motorways and in cities

The PTV TrafficPlatform allows traffic management centres to access information about the current traffic conditions on motorways and in cities. Additionally, it is possible to create short-term, medium- and long-term traffic forecasts. In order to receive valuable information about the current traffic condition it is essential to combine the data collected from different sources. This includes, for example, detector data, traffic count data, information about events, traffic data provided by mobile phone users and floating car data (FCD) as well as messages sent from onboard or mobile devices.

Universal PTV technology and open interfaces

PTV's new software solution merges data from different sources. It helps the user to deal with overlapping data and conflicting data and supports all standard data formats. The intelligent platform also supplements PTV Vision, the software suite for transportation planning and traffic engineering. Existing dynamic data can be used for calibrating a static traffic model. The PTV TrafficPlatform is based on universal PTV technology, homogeneous data and data structure as well as open interfaces.
